DORM ROOM ACCOMMODATIONS
Most Week-long Workshop participants, and almost all of our faculty and staff, will
stay in the dorms. The dorms are newer, but they are in a suite where you would share a bathroom with 1 other
room.
• Workshop participants 21 and under will most likely be staying in
Louisville Hall.
• Adult participants will most likely be staying in either
Kurz Hall or Community Park.
Rooms are DOUBLE occupancy, and unless you have a specific roommate request, we will pair you with someone of the
same sex, age, and instrument, in that order of priority. Yes, we have participants of all ages, so there will
be others there your age. Roommate requests are accepted, but we must receive them in writing before
June 1st. Typically, we book all of the students who are approx. 21 and under in the same building. In turn,
we book all the students who are over 21 in another building. We also have dorm arrangements reserved for
"families" who may be attending together. For example, father and son, mother and daughter, mother and
son, etc., AND we have dorm arrangements for MARRIED couples, and consenting adults. All of these example situations
would be placed around others in the same situation for maximum comfort.
All participants staying in the dorms should BRING THEIR OWN LINEN as well as:
• 2 Sheets (one fitted); Regular twin sheets are typically too small; Extra long twin sheets are best;
better too big than too small.
• A Blanket
• Towels
• Wash cloths and soap, shampoo, etc.
• Alarm clock
• PILLOW and a pillowcase
• Any other personal items
HOTELS NEAR THE UNIVERSITY
Some adult participants will feel more comfortable in a hotel. However, most all the
participants usually stay in the dorms. It is easier, and less expensive. A hotel room
can be quite costly especially for a week. If you choose to stay in a hotel, you might try:
• The Quality
Inn and Suites - Airport @ (502) 638-6100.
This hotel is the closest to the School of Music. It is located a few blocks from the University (at the corner of
Gaulbert and Arthur Streets, just off I-65 South), so you will likely need a car to get back and forth from campus,
but not necessarily (depends on your ability/desire to walk a few blocks either way). We do NOT
recommend you stay at the Days Inn which is next to The Quality Inn - we have heard some bad reports about this
particular Days Inn. (The Quality Inn and Suites is quite nice, though, seriously). We have been informed
that they may give a discount at the Quality Inn if you mention why you're coming - so be sure to ask, it's worth a
shot though NOT guaranteed.
If the Quality Inn and Suites are full, then you should consider trying the hotels listed below which are near the
airport (you WILL need a car, but it's only about 10-15 minutes to drive to campus from these hotels). They are
listed in no particular order, but each is about 4-5 miles or less from the campus:
•
Crowne Plaza, Near Airport, 502-367-2251 (Mention Workshops!)
• Sleep Inn, Preston Hwy, 502-368-9597 (Mention Workshops!)
• Holiday Inn Southwest, Dixie
Hwy, 502-448-2020 (Mention Workshops!)
• Best Western Ashton Inn Suites, Phillips Lane, 502-375-2233
• Comfort Inn Airport, Phillips Lane, 502-361-5008
• Hampton Inn Airport/Fair Expo.Ctr., Philips Lane, 502-366-8100
• Executive Inn, Near Airport, 502-367-6161
Any of these places will be able to help you get from their location to the University of Louisville.
GOOD IDEA!
You also might try looking at the Louisville Visitors' Bureau homepages at
www.gotolouisville.com. Follow the link for the VISITOR's
GUIDE, then from that page use the pull-down "FIND OUT MORE ABOUT..." window to find ACCOMODATIONS BY
LOCATION, then choose AIRPORT/SOUTH, and then look for the hotels with addresses on Phillips Lane...
these hotels are near the airport (about 5-10 minutes drive from campus) and so they are not too inconvenient. You
WILL need a car to get back and forth from campus at these Phillips Lane hotels. Any hotel should be able to direct
you to the campus.
